The good things with living in Europe is that you have many countries close by to explore, different food, lanscapes and cultures. In October me and my Swiss friend decided it was time for another girls trip together, the question was where should we go? After doing some research we both decided on Lisbon in Portugal, because the weather looked nice and we wanted to prolong the summer a bit.
Lisbon, the vibrant capital of Portugal is one of the oldest cities in Western Europe and has a blend of old-world charm and a modern energy. The city captivates me and fascinates me as we explore the city by foot. I love to explore cities by foot because you can see so much and if you’re lucky you can also find some hidden gems. Here are ? things you shouldn’t miss when you visit Lisbon!
1. Miradouro de Santa Luzia: This viewpoint is located in the Alfama district and you have a beautiful view over Tagus River and the rooftops of Alfama. There are plenty of viewpoints around Lisbon but this was one of my favourite ones, there is also a little garden next to the viewpoint and a church.
2. Take a stroll through Alfama District: Get lost in the narrow streets of Alfama, the oldest neighbourhood in Lisbon. I loved strolling around on the narrow streets, looking at the beautiful houses and watching the old trams drive by.
3. Visit Belem: Belem is one of the most famous neighbourhoods of Lisbon and it’s home to some of the cities famous landmarks. Visit the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology or watch the famous 25 Abril Bridge. Another attraction is the iconic Belem Tower which is a UNESCO World Heritage site and was first built to defend the city. You can enter the tower and get a nice view over the Tagus river and the suspension bridge.
